Not necessarily a bad thing, as there is a conflict of interest where the person is qualified. Because in a few years they will be unelected out and back working as a law practitioner.

So making changes which are unpopular with the Judiciary is easier for a person who isn't legally qualified. As long as their legal advisors are up to scratch.
