So now the question is - majority or supermajority for the Dems in the midterms...

I was recently talking about Texas growth with somebody from out of state. My city is reliably growing at around 25,000 people per year. They asked if it’s mostly California people and if those California transplants are changing the voting dynamic in the state.

Yes, the majority of that growth is from California. I was quick to answer that these California transplants were changing the driving behavior on the urban roads. I couldn’t answer about changes to politics though.

Democrats have finally figured that all they have to do to win in Texas is just propose excellent candidates. Normally both parties fall victim to the primaries and just put forward a stooge of party mechanics. Democrats have finally figured a way forward on this and republicans have not. As such Texas has become a toss up and will likely see its first state wide Democrat win office this year for the first time in about 30 years. Democrats have already been picking up local offices that were reliably Republican for that reason alone. Because of this I really could not answer my friend if these California transplants were changing the voting dynamic as it seems it would have happened anyways.

The thing is who are those fleeing from California - if they are the ones that reliably voted Democrat since the 90-s - then you should be scared of them flipping Texas blue if they want the same policies that lead California to its current messiness. If those are disillusioned democrats that actually want different set of policies - it is different beast, but I haven't actually seen good studies on the matter.

If there one thing that definitely exceeds the corruption and pedophile protection rings of Republicans, is Democrats unique ability to fumble and completely destroy historic opportunities. From the sabotage of Bernie Sanders, to the push forward of a geriatric Biden. Wait and you will see...

> ... pedophile protection rings of Republicans ...

If you're just being an angry partisan here... well, okay. Vs. if you really care about how little our society and gov't care about charming, powerful, and/or wealthy sex predators - I'd start by reading Epstein's bio more carefully. Notice the dates when he was getting arrested and when he was getting off with wrist-slaps, and check those against which party's Attorney General and Federal Prosecutors were running the show. Sadly, neither party cared all that much. Trump couldn't have made it a campaign issue in '24 if Biden had bothered to round up Jeff's fellow creeps and release a decent amount of information.

> ... Democrats unique ability ...

If only it was unique. Left wing political parties all over the world seem to attract cores of supporters who are far more interest in ideological purity and infighting than in the pragmatic realities of winning elections and holding power.

The same Dems quietly complacent in the ever-accelerating rot and corruption? The representatives or givernors not using tools at their disposal to keep the crooks and rapists exposed and in the spotlights? Or those who keep supporting the status quo (like American war on Iran or American support for the ongoing genocide of Gaza and ethnic cleansing of the West Bank) against the very clear preference of the Americans?

I don't think these Dems are going to do particularly well. If anything they shown how they work hand in hand with Republicans against the best interests of the country.

At least this is my understanding of the state of tge affairs, seeing how the "traditional Dems", supported by big businesses and AIPAC lose in the primaries.

I cross my fingers for the Americans - you have enough examples that the politics with heart and compassion works the best for you, even if another billionaire cried out in the dark they're stopped from becoming a trillionaire.
