Hi everyone,

The domain should be back up within the next few hours.

I had the domain set on auto-renew but unfortunately something went wrong, and I didn't get an email from the registrar about it (or it got misrouted to spam).

I've renewed the registration but it seems to be taking a while to propagate back to the .IN servers. An interim measure is setting an /etc/hosts record for pinboard.in to 64.62.134.190.

My sincere apologies for the outage. The TLS cert for Pinboard renews in October, and in my mind I thought the domain renewed at that time as well, or I would have paid closer attention. Irked at my own carelessness here.

The server itself continues to be online at its usual IP address: https://myip.ms/info/search/1/stxt/pinboard.in/k/2717049179/...

If you add the IP to your hosts file, the site still seems to work.

That works, thanks! I wonder how much longer that will stay up for, if Maciej hasn't noticed the domain registration lapse.

Brilliant news!

Getting "* server can't find pinboard.in: NXDOMAIN" via multiple networks and https://dnschecker.org/#A/pinboard.in is currently showing that it's not resolving anywhere in the world. Did Maciej forget to renew it?

Sure looks like it. whois.com is showing: Expires On: 2026-06-15

Seems to be a similar story for del.icio.us, which expired on 2026-05-02

That's very sad. It's an incredible resource but also woefully under-supported.

wow - so he acquired all the bookmarking sites and now he's gone too. I did actually pay for it for a few years but realised I never used it more than a couple times a year.
