This always seemed more like a streamlining effort for which much of the processes already exist (e.g. EUSS already uses pure online docs). Gov already has all that info.
Meanwhile the crazy shit like sending facial scans and passports to random ass websites that will most certainly face data leaks seems have gotten comparatively little public backlash.
Starting to think the public just doesn't know what is being talked about & is latching on to simpler more self-contained concepts like gov ID.
WE ALREADY HAVE DRIVERS LICENSES. Just like when I was living in NZ we had the HANZ 18+ card, they can do similar in UK. In fact a provisional drivers license is easy to apply for and the system is already set up to take applications, make the cards etc.
British citizens seem perfectly fine with government wasting money tho. Doesn't matter which political party either, they're all inept cocks.
But yes, if they were to implement it, it is highly likely to be some private contractor taking insane amount of money for something that barely works.
I am not exactly against the idea, it works in some counties, but I fail to see how it will work in the UK.

My point was, there are the application/validation systems and manufacturing already set up for driver's licenses.
Anybody can apply for a provisional driver's license. That provisional driver's license is an acceptable form of photo id that shows your age, address etc already.
So there is no need for an alternative/new system. If they want a "id" version of the provisional driver's license in terms of style/what gets printed then it's an easy/small modification.
Sure not everyone has a driver's license, but anybody can apply for one. If you don't know what a provisional driver's license is, then please look it up...
But last part of my reply was more specially on Digital ID. Which current system does not help or hasn't been implemented.
(Clacton will need serious public and legacy media advertising to overcome the Restore/Reform bias.)
But then I saw the interviews run on residents and who they'll be voting for, most of them creaky pensioners and most of them saying something like "I don't know anything about what's happening but I'm going to vote for Farage again anyway". I won't be surprised at all if Farage gets in again, tribalism and apathy strikes again.
I'm afraid people of Clacton will have to share the news of the Count, to actually make an effort and vote.
