California Energy Storage System Survey

Updated June 15th, 2026. Indicates 41% (~21GW) completed towards 2045 goal of 52GW of storage serving California’s CAISO electrical grid. At current deployment rates, California will likely reach their target ~10 years early (~2035).

Does not appear to include the Nighthawk Energy Storage Project, a 300-megawatt (MW) / 1,200-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery facility in Poway, California, recently commissioned.
