Z80 turns 50 as an open-source drop-in replacement nears DIP40 silicon

Great tiny tapeout project; hopefully this will result in drop-in replacement Z80 parts for vintage machines as well as new designs and homebrew systems for CP/M etc.

Then there is the MCLZ8, a cycle-accurate emulator that runs on a microcontroller (which itself is much more powerful than the original Z80) based board that can plug into a hardware Z80 socket:
