Twenty years ago this would have been “I Wanted to Own My VIM config, Then [Insert IDE] Won”.

The perennial question is, have you gotten any actual work done or are you now just configuring Codex Desktop?

Honestly, it's pretty good about this. Its terms are pretty fitting. Load-bearing, seam, etc. I'd actually say these were nice gifts to our developer parlance.

These words can definitely help in isolation. But I have noticed that when discussing anything complicated, the sum is far more ambiguous than the parts:

"fold", "honest", "answers", "pins", "frame", "hinge", "ground", "world", "mint", "captured", “trace”, “door”, ...

The increase in indirect references, tendency to "describe, not show", "indirectly reference, not show", and high density of uncommon metaphors, can leave some of Claude's longer and more complex responses impossible to parse.

I have fought back with some, but not total success.

Sol 5.6 loves seams. I never heard the word mentioned until Sol 5.6 before that it never came up. Now everything is the seam, lol. At least it doesn't bear any load.

Maybe I’m missing something. How is codex desktop more feature rich that Claude desktop? Aren’t they about the same now? I actually found codex desktop cloud mode to be more difficult to use in the codex desktop vs Claude because i have to create a new “environment” per GitHub repo in the same org at work.

I'm 100% fully in the cloud and strongly recommend it to others. I'm building (AQ.dev) so I'm obviously biased, but almost every single one of our customers ends up bringing their own VMs to the platform instead of using the Managed solution. There's definitely a pull in that direction in my opinion.

Ive been using 5.6 sol xhigh everyday since it launched. It does feel slower than it used to be. Fast mode seems useless now - burns through tokens without a noticeable speed gain for me now.

i was avoiding the harness wars, but a friend recommended it and i just switched to it from codex... and i feel like i just leveled up. what sells it for me is that it uses LSP's to edit the files. so much faster and more accurate edits.

use it with ACP through Zed and you get rid of all the TUI graphics nonsense...
